Nothing can really prepare you for what mother nature sometimes throws our way. And when it comes to hurricanes and tornadoes its best to follow the local orders of your municipality and always evacuate as soon as you can. But the damage that is left behind can sometimes be immeasurable, we have been there with you when disaster strikes. And sometimes disaster strikes with a random passing of a thunderstorm without much notice. But you do not need to feel unprepared, are some basic things you can do to help when storms roll through.
Here in the Lowcountry we deal with our fair share of storms and being prepared is something we should all be thinking about. A couple great tips to prepare for storms.
- Make sure your yard is clear. Remove items that can blow around like children toys, tables, umbrellas, chairs and even garbage cans.
- Know where your cutoffs are for water, electric and gas.
- Have drinking water in containers or bottles.
- Make sure you have fresh batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
